A useful pet-sitter handover makes an ordinary day easy to repeat. Write down the routine your pet already knows, show the sitter where supplies belong and leave clear instructions before departure.
Pack for the actual stay
- Enough familiar food for the planned stay, with a little extra for a travel delay.
- Regular bowls, walking equipment and clean-up supplies.
- A familiar resting item and a suitable toy your pet already uses.
- Any prescribed medication in its original packaging, with the instructions provided by your veterinarian.
- Care records and travel documents needed for the destination or boarding provider.
If your pet travels with you, confirm the transport provider's and destination's current rules directly. Requirements vary; this packing list does not replace them.

Write a note someone can scan
Copy this outline into your own private note and fill in the details:
Pet and routine: name, meals, toilet breaks, walks and usual bedtime.
Food: exact food, amounts, location and any restrictions.
Care: veterinarian-provided instructions and where supplies are kept.
Comfort: favourite resting place, familiar activities and things to avoid.
Help: your contact, backup contact, usual vet and local emergency vet.
Updates: preferred channel and agreed frequency.
Share keys, access codes and security instructions separately through a secure method. Do not leave them in a public document or a social post.
Walk through the handover
Show the sitter how doors and gates close, where the lead belongs and how to use any equipment. Agree what to do if you cannot be reached. Keep the plan consistent with any care authorisation you have arranged with the provider or veterinarian.

Keep belongings and pet transport separate
An open Pet Love Tote can hold everyday belongings. It is not a pet carrier. For animal transport, use equipment appropriate to the animal and the journey.
Ordering new supplies? Check product-page timing and the delivery options for your address. Have the essentials ready before the handover, rather than depending on a parcel arriving that morning.
Close the loop when you return
Ask where used items were placed and whether anything needs replenishing. A specific thank-you is a good finish. Our pet-sitter gift guide includes a short note you can adapt.
